Ian St Leon, Account Manager with Fuji Xeros is one of Australia's best known line dance identities. He is in demand as a tutor and dancer of uppermost skills. Ian has taken a little time out to allow an ankle to heal hopefully in time for the annual January  line dance Tamworth Festival Schedule.  He met with the Platypus Festival  Hon Producer Joe McManamon and offered to sponsor Platypus Festival 08 printing costs that will save at least $1,500. Festival Management Team member John Brand said the gift was among the largest they are likely to receive.

Dawn supports with Cancer Morning Tea. Manilla's Dawn Gategood is hard at work putting the annual morning tea into place for this Saturday morning at the Manilla  Town Hall. Those eager to lend a helping hand can contact Dawn on 67851317
Tony Blair lends a hand at Manilla. The former UK PM has added his name in support of the October Long Weekend at Manilla as have Cardinal Pell and Australasian PM, Kevin Rudd. Details next week.
Manilla Branch of CWA attend State Conference at Tweed Heads. President Joy Highlands and Treasurer Doris Budden were the Branch delegates to Conference and travelled to Tweed Heads on Saturday 3rd May. The venue was the Twin Towns Resort, which was excellent as the conference centre and accommodation were all under the one roof. Manilla Branch Secretary Michelle Eggins, who is also the Namoi Group President and Representative to Executive drove up on Friday for Pre-Conference meetings and after a long week all our ladies travelled home by coach on Saturday. Members were able to listen to Guest Speakers on various topics. The Guest Speaker during the opening of Conference on Monday was Ms Ronni Khan of OzHarvest. She developed this wonderful scheme for the less fortunate in our major cities of re-using left over food. There were certainly many highlights of Conference; and one certainly was hearing retired School teacher Ms Carolyn Hauff speak about 'Schooling Today's Generation - What a Challenge'. Do you know we now have 'generation Y and Z' children to be educated with the many new problems that our modern methods and lives have brought upon them. Resolutions were discussed and debated with enthusiasm, with letters to be written on various matters of concern to our State and Federal Members of Government - some are the 'single desk' wheat issue, privatisation of our power industry, grain haulage on our roads. $25,000 will be donated from CWA of NSW through our Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) to the people of Burma. Michelle is very proud of her latest achievement in this wonderful volunteer organisation called the Country Women's Association of NSW; she is now one of our four State Vice Presidents; but sadly was unable this year to claim a prize for her pineapple jam.
Vintage Machinery. The popular Annual Vintage Machinery Display is now just a few weeks away. The June Long Weekend at the Manilla Showground will feature scores of invaluable machinery items both mobile and static and attract visitors from across NSW and Southern Queensland. he weekend is renowned for its display and extensive array of spare parts andtrading tables.
Men's Health Week. An invitation is extended to all men and your mates for a "Men's Only" night to be held at the CWA rooms on Wednesday 11th June - 6.00 for 6.30. Dr. Frazer will be one of the guest speakers. CWA will cater a free light supper to those that are able to attend. RSVP Secretary Michelle Eggins,  phone 6785 2508 by 2nd June to enjoy the company and the supper.
Australian Natives. Popular Manilla residents Brad and Tricia Freestone operate Manilla's Palais Nursery and Brad is now passing on his knowledge of Australian Natives. he pens the topical information and Jan Hagan reads the detils each Monday Morning on 2 YOU FM's "Tamworth Today" (9am/12Noon)
The Great Australian Bite. Manilla Branch of the Country Women's Association this year will be hosting an afternoon to support and bring more awareness of Diabetes to Manilla. Wednesday 14th May from 2pm at the CWA rooms; please come with a friend and enjoy a wonderful afternoon tea, 'CWA style' with a Guest Speaker to tell us more of this ever increasing illness. Diabetes effects the pancreas - either not making any insulin, or the insulin it does make is not enough and can't work properly. There are two types of Diabetes - Type 1 and Type 2.  Do you know the symptoms of Diabetes? You may have a member of the family or friend that has this illness or similar symptoms; and it is something that we can learn more about. For catering purposes a phone call to 6785 2508 would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and we hope you are able to attend, Michelle Eggins, Manilla CWA Secretary

ACRA BUSH BALLAD AWARD WILL LIVE ON WITH NEIL'S NAME
Bush Ballad ACRA Award;  Neil Beeby had been a musician, he would have been a bass player or drummer – the engine room of the music that is often in the background – working without missing a beat and often not noticed until they stop playing – and you suddenly notice that something that was integral to this great music is not here any longer.Neil’s passion for country music was well known and documented over many years. He forged strong friendships with many of today’s stars, but it was his unfailing and enthusiastic support and encouragement of the developing artists that helped so many along the Australian country music track. Tamworth might be for many the heart of Australian country music, but there was a heart in Canberra that beat just as strongly, and we’ll miss his friendship, passion, humour, dedication, and most certainly his wonderful contribution. Born in 1969, Paul Kelly began juvenile life of problems. When only 16 days old, Paul was the first baby to ever be fitted with a brain shunt, to try & halt the ravaging effects of Hydracephalus, brought on by a brain haemorrhage at birth.
Fortunately the experiment worked, & by the time he was 9 years old he had had a further 8 brain operations for shunt problems & renewals. Within 6 months, Paul was facing further trouble with chronic Scoliosis. The next  5 years  saw Paul have another 6 major operations tyo get his spine fused, from  top to bottom, to help save his life.  During one of his hospital stays of traction & immobility, Paul was given a cassette player & a Slim Dusty tape by his mother, which encouraged a very healthy interest in country music.Since then, Paul has accumulated a massive collection of country music memorabilia, & has surprised many people in the industry. For instance, part of the collection is a huge tribute to Slim Dusty, which has been acknowledged by several CM authorities as being  vastly extensive, & possibly one of the largest in the world.  Within this area, Paul has more than 800 press clippings, more than 300 photos, & over 500 autographs of Slim, Apart from 3 black Columbia 78's Paul has all recordings put out by Slim,  many interview discs,  lots of specially made articles signed by Slim, & a great number of posters, plus loads of other interesting things. Country music Doyen Peter Burgis has labelled Paul as a country music historian & "Slimdustyologist" which we think is very appropriate.Since starting collecting in 1978, Paul is still finding things & is also very grateful if people send him bits & pieces they no longer want. He is hoping to build a Country Music museum in the future, which will absolutely amaze  CM lovers with its contents. Amongst the huge number of posters, are several very old ones, advertising some of Slim's early concerts in 1954, 1955, 1956, 1964, 1965 & 1968, all signed by Slim himself. Many photos of articles in his collection were used in the assembly of the accompanying booklet published for the box set of Slim's "Man Who Is Australia" put out by EMI.In early 2004 Paul was asked by the producer of the "Lights On The Hill" special which was aired on National ABC TV to appear with some of his collection, with many of his photos  used throughout the programme.Paul was also asked by the Toowoomba Lions Club to have a display at their annual Hobby & Craft Show. The same week, regional ABC radio also did an interview with him about his collection. In all, Paul has done a lot of publicity for the Country Music industry over the years, which we are sure must be appreciated by the industry peers.Paul has got his 6th guitar fully autographed by Australian & Overseas artists. Many of the artists are very well known including Freddie Fender, Don Williams, Foster & Allen, Charlie Landsborough, Slim Dusty, Isla Grant, Don McLean, Stan Coster, Keith Urban, Topp Twins, Ted Egan plus lots more.In Paul's collection are some personally autographed photos of Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Dolly Parton, Buck Owens, Hank Williams Jnr, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Don Williams, Loretta Lynne, Charlie Pride, Freddie Fender, Tanya Tucker, Randie Travis, Reba McIntyre, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, June Carter-Cash, Porter Wagner plus hundreds more.
We are looking forward to seeing Paul's  amazing collection asdsembled into a Country Museum, which we are sure will astound many  interested people.

After spending over 20 years breeding & exhibiting Corgis, & running hundreds of dog shows, making ceramic pieces is a much more leisurely way of having fascinating enjoyment. 18 months of learning & many seminars with overseas teachers,  preceded 8 days spent at a Teachers Examination, which was then sent to USA for marking. Consequently in September 1983, Shirley's Ceramic World was born in Gatton, Q'land, where it stayed till 1985, when it was resettled in Toowoomba, Q'land & still is today in 2007.The late eighties saw us include a craft gift shop, which contained all homemade crafts from many enthusiasts of dozens of different hobbies, including our large range of ceramics ware. Thus was the birth of Shirleyware in 1990 which still operates as an arm of SCW in Toowoomba today. In the early nineties, we began introducing a large range of  cows to the Shirleyware business, making it possibly the largest assortment of cow ware in Australia, in fact we manufacture nearly 200.For the Ned Kelly fanatics, the stock on the Shirleyware website are totally unique, except for the moneybox which is an old Australian mould from years ago. All the others have been made specially for the Shirleyware  industry , & judging by the public response, they are drawing phenomenal interest. All are made of Earthenware Clay ceramics, & hand painted individually, & the decals [pictures] on selected items have been especially designed & are copyrighted artwork. Only Shirleyware is the  place to get our iconic Ned Kelly's  as the werbsite shows. The Aquarium ornamental décor is made of earthenware ceramics also, & covered in non-toxic colours, & fired over 1000 degree heat, making them exceptionally hard, & have already been proven safe.
Please visit our website  www.shirleyware.net  & be sure to tell your friends.

It was 17th November at Wagga Wagga in the Riverina Region of New South Wales.
The occasion was the 17th Tamworth on Parade Spectacular. During the show The Australian Country Recording Awards were presented. The awards were also in their 17th year and for the first time included an award for the most popular Overseas Country Artist. The judges are the FM Broadcasters across Australia. Each year these broadcasters are invited to become a judge and their scores make up the winners of the ACRA Awards. The announcement that Dennis Marsh was the winner of the Overseas Award was greeted with sustained and loud applause from the Full House (440) at the Commercial Club. It is with pride we acknowledge an entertainer of the people and for the people and a man who gives so often to his wider community.

Banjo looks after the Manilla Platypus
Manilla is a small town north of Tamworth in the New England Region of New South Wales. Early last century a man called Harry Burrell carried out unique studies into the life and times of the platypus. His book of that research has gone on to create a better understanding of the mammal. The book is today a treasure and his name is mentioned with great pride across the continent where the platypus is located. The Platypus Festival Management Team is gearing up for the October Long Weekend Platypus Festival with a sense of great expectation. The Manilla Central School has kindly provided its Multi Purpose Centre as the primary venue of the festival.
